How to Start a Pro-Life Club on Your Campus

So you want to start a pro-life club on your campus but you're not sure where to start? Well, here are some tips to help your club get started and keep going year after year!

Identify and gather a few of your close friends that you know are pro-life and have an initial meeting. (Serve free snacks and you'll get more people.)

At The Meeting

Hand out HLA's Trapped... publication and other information about the widespread impact of abortion and talk to them about why this issue is so important to our culture.

Show them some easy ways that they can get involved in the pro-life club to make a difference on your campus by raising awareness about life issues.

Discuss and plan strategies for mass distributing Trapped... on your campus. This is an effective and affordable kick-off event that can be done every year. Click here to view Trapped...

Encourage each person to invite at least two more people to the next meeting. Spread the word through announcements in classes, ads in the school newspaper or radio, and word of mouth.

Appoint officers and spread out duties among several people so no one gets swamped. Delegate tasks such as making posters, talking to the school administration, contacting pro-life organizations for materials, raising funds, bringing snacks, leading meetings, etc.

Find a pro-life professor to become a sponsor/mentor for your group. This way you will also have someone to help you if the school administration gives you any problems.

Go through all the proper channels. Talk to the school administration to find out what you need to do to make your club official and apply for funds for your club. Don't be deterred if they deny you funds or official club status. Contact Lawyers for Life or Rock for Life and ask what your legal rights are.

Fundraising

Ask for a list of alumni that might be interested in your cause and be able to support you through donations of time or money.

Find someone in a local church, organization, or community that knows how to raise funds, and ask for their help in developing your club.

Raise Awareness of Your Club

Contact local churches and pro-life organizations to raise awareness of your club and to find out ways you may be able to support local efforts in the pro-life community.

Have at least one event a month so that you keep students involved and interested in being active in your club. It doesn't have to be difficult or take tons of time. (Pass out Trapped... at a football game, or slip it under doors in the dorms)

Make sure that you have a booth or event at the beginning of every school year to try and involve incoming freshman. Most students are looking for ways to get involved, but will quickly sign up for the one or two activities that first look appealing to them. After that, they are over-booked and it will be much more difficult to get them involved. It is so important to INVOLVE FRESHMAN every year or else your club will die out as everyone graduates.

These are just a few tips to help you get started! If you have other ideas that have worked well for your club and you would like to share them with us click here. We'd love to hear from you!
